In a word, Yes! It took me a long time to discover this, as I was always so used to calling upon the Lord's name, as this is scriptural.
"And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved" Joel 2:32
However with that said, there is a spiritual maturity that comes with spiritual growth, and God expects us to step out in our faith and exercise our kingdom authority. It doesn't matter how much we know, as long as what we know we are secure in knowing. ( The mustard seed parable comes to mind.)
The scripture that God showed me was one that describes the arch angel disagreeing with Satan, and as powerful as the angel was and is, the way Michael used to defeat Satan was not by his own might of words.
"But even the archangel Michael, when he was disputing with the devil about the body of Moses, did not dare to bring a slanderous accusation against him, but said, ' The Lord rebuke you!' " Jude 1:9
We are not to give evil a forum and ask evil questions. We do not need to know the name of the spirit, we do not need to know why it has entered our lives, or entered a person's body. We have the authority to rebuke it so it will no longer be entertained by invoking fear and causing someone to panic and stand in awe of it.
That's why a spirit does what it does. The demon that Jesus told to be silent and come out of the person at the beginning of His ministry obeyed, but didn't leave without a fight. It shook the person violently and this was basically to have the last say; to entertain people's fear by showing people what it could do. By fearing spirits we do not believe in God and His mighty power that He has over the spirits.
Rebuking does not keep the spirits gone IF one is not living their life for Christ. Even Jesus says that our houses must not be just swept clean, because when evil comes back and finds the house empty, it will come back with more demons and it will be harder to get rid of many than it was with just one. We have to fill up our houses ( our temples- our bodies) with righteousness, because an evil spirit cannot dwell in the house of the Lord!
"When an evil spirit comes out of a man, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says ' I will return to the house I left." When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that man is worse than the first." Matthew 12: 43-45
This teaching goes hand in hand with the Hebrew feast of Passover. Before Passover would begin the Israelites were called to get rid of all the yeast in their homes. Their cupboards would be wiped clean, and the yeast would be given away or sold. The house would be swept clean from top to bottom to make sure that there was no yeast anywhere. During baking, some yeast could have fallen on the floor, and picked up by someone's shoes and carted to another room, or fall in the folds of someone's cloak. Everything in that house was taken out and wiped down, shaken, washed and swept to make sure that the house was cleaned of yeast. The yeast represented sin, getting rid of the yeast meant to live in obedience to God. This is what Jesus meant by the teaching of sweeping our houses clean. If we get rid of the sin in our lives, through our own methods, our houses are still empty and not filled up with the teachings of God; the only way to keep the evil away is to live in obedience according to Christ.
